Cave Junction is located in the heart of Southern Oregon’s “Illinois Valley,” just 60 miles from the Pacific Coast and 30 miles from the bustling cultural and commercial hub of Grants Pass. A region of extraordinary beauty, the land around Cave Junction contains sparkling rivers, clear lakes, green forests, and breathtaking views of the Siskiyou Mountains. The unincorporated community of Selma is located about 14 miles north of Cave Junction on Highway 199.

Shopping and Dining

One of Cave Junction’s most popular restaurants, Taylor’s Sausage sells outstanding pepper sticks, barbeque, and sausages from inside Taylor’s Country Store. Homemade soups are served alongside paninis, sandwiches, and burgers at the River Valley Restaurant. Wild River Handcrafted Food & Ale is known for its award-winning handcrafted beers and fabulous pizzas. For delicious margaritas and authentic enchiladas, head over to Carlos Mexican and Seafood Restaurante. Cave Junction also is home to Bridgeview Vineyards, one of the largest wineries in the state. Additional wineries located nearby include Foris Vineyards and Bear Creek Winery. Deer Creek Vineyards is located in Selma, which is also home to a small grocery store and a gas station.

Parks and Recreation

With its clean air, majestic scenery, and mild climate, the Illinois Valley is the perfect place to enjoy the outdoors. The famous Oregon Caves National Monument is one of Cave Junction’s most popular attractions. Located about 20 miles east of town off of Hwy. 46, the spectacular marble caves lie deep inside the Siskiyou Mountains. The Monument’s 480 acres also feature four ancient-forest hiking trails. Additional Cave Junction attractions include the Great Cats World Park and the Out’n’About Treehouse Treesort. The Illinois Valley Golf Course features gorgeous views of the mountains and 71 acres of well-kept greens. The Illinois River Forks State Park is an ideal spot for fishing and picnicking. Jubilee Park located near downtown Cave Junction hosts many of the city’s major events, including the Antique Car show, the Labor Day festival, and the summer Concert-in-the-Park series. Skiing, sledding, and other winter sport activities are available at Page Mountain Sno-Park about 30 minutes outside of town. For swimming, fishing, hiking, camping, and boating head to Lake Selmac in Selma. The lake is also a good place to glimpse the Bald Eagles and Osprey that nest in the area.

Children of Cave Junction and Selma attend schools operated by the Three Rivers School District. Cave Junction is home to a Head Start program, Evergreen Elementary School, Lorna Byrne Middle School, and Illinois Valley High School. University and college options include Southern Oregon University in Ashland and Rogue Community College in Grants Pass.

Cave Junction is home to several physicians, a medical clinic, a dentist, an eye doctor, and a chiropractor. Selma also has several physicians. The nearest hospitals and emergency rooms are in Grants Pass.

There is a bus service that runs between Cave Junction, Selma, and Grants Pass. It also connects Cave Junction and Selma to the Medford Airport, the Medford Greyhound station, the city of Ashland, and the Amtrak station in Klamath Falls. Travelers also can take Highway 199 to Grants Pass and I-5.
