The Upper Rogue River Valley is a picturesque region in Southern Oregon known for its recreation, peaceful living, and historic heritage. Communities located around the river include Sams Valley, Eagle Point, Shady Cove, Trail, Butte Falls, Prospect and Union Creek.

Sams Valley, Oregon

Sams Valley lies near the California border, just northeast of Gold Hill, on Oregon Route 234. Large, expansive estates with multiple acres are the norm in this area, and many houses for sale in Sams Valley offer land perfect for establishing a vineyard or horse ranch. Others features small ponds, barns, sports courts, large patios and decks for outside entertaining, and/or access to Rogue River. Sams Valley real estate generally includes the additional communities of Beagle, Antioch, and Table Rock.

The Upper and Lower Table Rocks offer residents miles of hiking trails with panoramic views of the gorgeous Medford Valley region. Gasoline and convenience items can be purchased at Rainey’s Corner Market. The store also has a Taco Bell. Annual events include the Wild Rogue Pro Rodeo, which takes place each Memorial Day weekend near Sams Valley in the town of Central Point. Eagle Point, Oregon

Located just 12 miles from Medford on the way to Crater Lake, Eagle Point, Oregon is known as “The Gateway to the Lakes.” A rural city of approximately 8,500 people, Eagle Point is home to a unique blend of big-city and bucolic amenities, including farms, dairies, ranches, museums, parks, historic buildings, and a world-class, 18-hole golf course. Shady Cove, Oregon

Known as “The Jewel of the Upper Rogue,” Shady Cove is a small but bustling, rural tourist village located on the banks of the Upper Rogue River. Most known for its salmon and steelhead fishing, the river also offers plenty of year-round recreational opportunities, including whitewater rafting and wildlife watching. Hiking, biking, boating, and camping are available 10 miles east of town at Lost Creek Lake.

Shady Cove’s business district includes local eateries like Bel Di’s Restaurant and Fishing Hole Fly Shop as well as boutique shops, gift stores, and rafting companies. Rogue River Lodge, Crater Lake Cellars, Miguel’s Mexican Restaurant, and In the Attic are several of the village’s most notable businesses.

Houses for sale in Shady Cove include small to large-sized, single-family houses and small to medium-sized manufactured houses on gorgeous lots. Tall pines and green hills cover the area. Undeveloped land with views of the mountains and/or the river is also available for purchase. Zip Code: 97539.

Trail, Oregon

Located northeast of Shady Cove, Trail is a small unincorporated community of about 1,500. It is home to the Cole M. Rivers Hatchery, Oregon’s largest hatchery, which raises rainbow trout, cojo, Chinook salmon and steelhead. The Trail Market offers convenience items and the Trail Creek Tavern in now a museum that celebrates earlier times. Zip Code: 97541.

Butte Falls, Oregon

The tiny city of Butte Falls is located on the South Fork of Big Butte Creek in Southern Oregon amidst tall trees, sparkling waters, and breathtaking mountain views. Though home to only 435 people, the city boasts its own community hall, community center, city hall, and library. There are also two schools, two churches, two museums, several restaurants, a general store, a bar, and water bottling plant in town. Zip Code: 97522.

Prospect, Oregon

Situated along Oregon Route 62 and the Rogue River in the Rogue River National Forest, the scenic community of Prospect is the perfect place from which to embark on an outdoor adventure. Several cascading waterfalls are located in the area, including Barr Creek Falls and Mill Creek Falls – both of which can be reached via a trailhead located along Mill Creek Drive. Another small waterfall can be found at “The Peninsula,” a favorite local swimming hole. The breath-taking Prospect State Scenic Viewpoint is also nearby.

Though the region’s mild climate and beautiful scenery make outdoor recreation fun all year long, summers here are particularly enjoyable. In July, the community of Prospect hosts an airplane “fly-in.” August brings a Timber Carnival and Jamboree. The annual Mill Creek Memorial festival features live music, carnival games, a parade, and a flag retirement ceremony. The season ends the last weekend of September with Prospect Hotel’s two-day-long Music in the Mountains festival. Union Creek, Oregon

Union Creek is located along Oregon Route 62 inside the Rogue River National Forest, just 15 miles from Crater Lake National Park. Most known for its world-renowned fishing, this small community also offers hiking, horseback riding, sledding, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling along 150 miles of maintained trails. Shopping and dining options are available within the Union Creek Historic District, home to the Union Creek Resort lodge, Beckie’s Café, a grocery store, an ice cream shop, and several cabins.
