Phoenix, Talent and Ashland are some of the final stops before the Oregon-California border, but the reqion is packed with culture, hosting the world-famous Oregon Shakespeare Festival, several wineries, abundant outdoor space and some of the state's best produce, including pears, grapes cherries and peaches.

 

Phoenix, Oregon

Phoenix, Oregon is located on I-5, approximately 3 miles southwest of Medford. Home to approximately 4,538 people, the small city of Phoenix features delicious restaurants, numerous stores, and 35 acres of parkland. La Tapatia and Debby’s Diner are two of the city’s most popular restaurants. Additional eateries can be found along with Maximum Sports, Ladybug Indoor Gardens, several service providers and home furnishing stores, a bridal salon, a beauty salon, a church, and a medical clinic at The Shoppes at Exit 24.

Blue Heron Park, Phoenix’ largest park, boasts 24 acres of land, two children’s playgrounds, a gazebo, and access to the Bear Creek Greenway. Horseshoe pits, BBQ stands, additional playgrounds, a hike and bike trail, and a softball field are available at Clover Road Park. City schools include Armadillo Technical Institute, Phoenix High School, and the Armadillo Technical Institute, a public charter school that serves children from 6th to 12th grade. Median cost for houses for sale in Phoenix in 2012 was $145,400.

Talent, Oregon

Situated just off I-5 in the midst of the beautiful Rogue Valley is the city of Talent. Located between Ashland and Medford, Talent offers a charming combination of small-town living and big-city amenities, including wineries, organic farms, and live theatre. The city also is also home to several popular restaurants.

The Talent Café on N Pacific Highway is famous for its excellent coffee, great ambiance, and enormous portions. Mei Sum Restaurant offers affordable Asian cuisine with a smile. For a real treat, check out the delectably unassuming New Sammy’s Cowboy Bistro on S Pacific Highway, which serves up mouth-watering entrees alongside one of the best wine lists in the country.

Talent’s nine city parks offer plenty of opportunities for outdoor recreations. Residents can play softball, basketball, tennis, and soccer at Chuck Roberts Park, skateboard at Old Town Park, or hike and bike on the Bear Creek Greenway. Picnicking, swimming, boating, hiking, hunting mushrooms, and relaxing take place at nearby Hyatt Lake.

The land around Talent is both scenic and fertile. Pears, grapes, cherries, and peaches are several of the region’s best crops. Median home cost in 2012 was $162,400. Population is approximately 6,066.

Ashland, Oregon

Known primarily for the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Ashland, Oregon is a booming town of vibrant culture, plentiful recreation, friendly residents, and breathtaking natural beauty. Rushing rivers, rolling hills, and majestic mountain views provide a picturesque backdrop to the city’s numerous festivities and community events.

Winter in Ashland brings holiday celebrations and the start of the renowned Oregon Shakespeare Festival, an 11-play festival that generally runs from February to November. In the spring, the city hosts its annual film festival. Summer rings out with the annual music festival. Wine tastings, culinary festivals, and Halloween and Thanksgiving celebrations are scattered throughout the fall. Additional events, including many live music events, are held throughout the year.

Outdoor enthusiasts and organic farmers appreciate the city’s beautiful, fertile lands. Hiking along the area’s many trails, rafting on the Rogue River, fishing in Salmon River, climbing and skiing Mt. Ashland, biking the 28-mile Lithia Mountain Bike Route, and playing in Ashland’s 93-acre Lithia Park are several favorite activities. Local farmers sell succulent organic produce and artisan goods on Saturdays and Tuesdays at the Rogue Valley Growers and Crafters Market.

Ashland also is home to a nature center, a golf course, a state-of-the-art interactive science museum, two microbreweries, several wineries, an organic distillery, and more than 80 restaurants. The Open Range at The Pinehurst Inn, Morning Glory, Amuse, Agave Taco, and the Deux Chats Bakery are just a few of the city’s popular eateries.

Approximately 20,078 people call the city home. Houses for sale in Ashland include gorgeous multi-level homes on wooded lots, medium-sized contemporary houses, and amenity-rich remodels bordering Bear Creek. Large parcels of undeveloped land are also available. Median home cost in 2012 was $291,600.
