A natural treasure of clear water, green forests, breathtaking mountain peaks, and award-winning wineries, the Applegate Valley in Southern Oregon offers the best in outdoor living and relaxation just minutes away from the bustling commercial and entertainment districts of Grants Pass.

Rising around this sun-dappled valley is the Siskiyou Mountain Range – a perfect retreat for skiing, snowboarding, mountain climbing, hiking, mountain biking, fishing, and camping. Applegate Lake is a reservoir in the Rogue River National Forest that is formed by the Applegate River. The lake’s sparkling, clear waters and gorgeous mountain scenery make it a popular destination for boaters and kayakers. Fishers can find largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, and large-sized rainbow trout in the lake.

Communities in Applegate Valley tend to be situated near the banks of the Applegate River or along one of the many creeks that feed into it. Houses for sale in the area include ranches, farmhouses, and single-family houses on naturally beautiful lots. Anyone looking to purchase a new home in the Applegate Valley area should consider the small communities of Murphy, Williams, Applegate, and Ruch. Located along OR-238 and the Applegate River, these communities make a rough semi-circle that connects Grants Pass to Medford, just south and west of I-5.

Less than 10 minutes south of Grants Pass, Murphy lies just off the Williams Highway. One of the closest Applegate Valley communities to Grants Pass, Murphy rests at the intersection of Murphy Creek and the Applegate River. It is home to the Three Rivers School District, the Murphy General Store, Hidden Valley High School, and several retail stores.  Though unincorporated, Murphy does have its own zip code: 97533.

A small community of approximately 1,072 people, Williams lies about 12 miles south of Murphy. One of the most gorgeous communities in the Applegate Valley, Williams’ landscape is dotted with green fields, clear water, tall trees, sprawling, ranches, and single-family houses. Because of its beauty and peaceful living, Williams is home to many artists and musicians. The town is also home to a town center with several businesses, the Williams Elementary School, and the Williams Country Store. Cocina 7 Taqueria and Café on Blodgett Road serves up tacos, tortas, and other Mexican-inspired creations alongside regular live music.  Zip Code: 97544.

Nestled on the banks of the Applegate River, the community of Applegate is in the middle of the renowned Applegate Valley Wine Trail. Running between Grants Pass and Jacksonville and Medford, the wine trail features 18 vineyards/wineries. Five wineries – Red Lily Vineyards, Devitt Winery, Jacksonville Vineyards, LongSword Vineyard, and Fiasco Winery and Artisan Faire – connect Applegate to the nearby community of Ruch via Route 238.

In addition to its popular wineries, the unincorporated community of Applegate is home to a library, the Applegate Café and Store, and the Applegate River Lodge. A gorgeous hotel made out of logs, the lodge overlooks the Applegate River and features seven large, individually appointed rooms and a river-front restaurant. Zip Code: 97527.

Home to only 840 people, Ruch is most known for its place on the Applegate Valley Wine Trail.  It is also home to an Historic Bridge, an historic Ranger Station, a branch of the Jackson County Library, My Way Café, and the Ruch Elementary School, which is operated by Medford School District.
